Week 6 · Session 3
Sort your own list
Six weeks of evidence, turned into three patterns.
~35 minWarm up
3 minutes
The most useful question to ask about something you missed is:
Sort your list by reason, not by word
10 minutes
Take your whole Couldn't-Catch List and put each entry into one of these buckets. Most lists collapse into two or three:
- Glued — the words ran together and I could not find the edges.
- Crushed — a small word shrank so far I did not notice it.
- Ending — I missed a tense, a plural, or a final consonant.
- Sound — I heard a different word entirely.
- Speed or noise — too many people, or too loud.
- Number, date or name.
This count is the most valuable single thing you produce in this course. It tells you — with evidence — exactly where the next six weeks of your effort should go.
Work one pattern properly
12 minutes
Take your biggest bucket. Pick five entries from it. For each one:
- Write what you heard.
- Write what it actually was, if you know now.
- Say the fast version out loud three times.
- Ask yourself which of the six reasons it was.
Then go back to the session that covers it and redo the drill:
Words glue togetherW1 · S1
Linking — separate words arriving as one long sound.
The loud syllableW1 · Workshop
One syllable loud, the rest thrown away.
Small words vanishW1 · S3
to, of, have, can shrinking to almost nothing.
Vowel lengthW2 · Workshop
The vowel telling you what the swallowed ending was.
EndingsW3 · Workshop
-ed and -s, and counting syllables correctly.
The repair kitW3 · S3
Naming the exact gap instead of asking for the whole sentence.
TH, V/W, L/RW4 · Workshop
The sounds that produce the wrong word, not a fuzzy one.
Numbers and datesW5 · Workshop
Thirteen or thirty, and why big numbers lag.
Write the questions you still have
5 minutes
Bring these. A final class with no questions prepared turns into a chat. A final class with three real questions is worth ten hours of listening.
Record your voice note
3 minutes
“What is the pattern that still catches you most often? Give an example of a time it happened.”
Save it as “Week 6 — Voice Note 2”.
