A whole conversation

Full speed, captions off, then shadow it.

Why is the vowel in “bag” longer than in “back”?
In real conversation, “um” and “like” mean:

Watch a real interview — captions off

15 minutes
Conversation Study — Interview with ChrisRachel's English · Tap to play. Pause and replay as much as you want — replaying is the method, not cheating.
First pass: turn the captions off. Listen to the whole conversation once for gist only. What are they talking about? That is the only question you have to answer.
Then a second pass with captions on. Read along while she does the analysis. Notice how many of the things she points out were already familiar from Week 1 — linking, crushed function words, dropped h.

Shadow one speaker

6 minutes

Choose thirty seconds where one person is talking. Play it and speak at the same time — not after. Do it three times.

Copy the rhythm, not the words. If you catch only half the words but land the loud syllables in the right places, you did the exercise correctly.

Record your voice note

3 minutes
“What did the two people in the interview talk about? Tell it as if you were telling a friend.”

Save it as “Week 2 — Voice Note 3”. This one is a comprehension check as well as a recording — if you can retell it, you followed it.

Get ready for your live class

4 minutes

Bring your three voice notes, the Workshop 2 recording, and your Couldn't-Catch List — especially the blanks from the fifteen-second exercise.

Week 3 is about questions: how to know one has landed on you, and what to say in the two seconds after it does.
