How this course works

Five minutes now will save you a lot of confusion later.

5 minutes

Everything stays on this page

the most important rule

The videos play here, inside the course. Nothing opens a new tab. You will never end up on YouTube with ten videos open.

You do not need the arrows at the top of your browser. Use the buttons on the page — the purple A at the top left always brings you back to this course's home page, and the bar at the bottom always moves you forward and back.

Four sessions a week

about 35 minutes each

Each week has four sessions. Do them in order, one at a time, on four different days. Do not do two in one sitting — your ear needs the sleep between them more than it needs the extra hour.

Session 2 of every week is the Pronunciation Workshop. Those pages are gold instead of purple so you can see them coming.

Tap “Mark this step finished”

so you never lose your place

Every step has a button at the bottom. Tap it when you finish that step. The circle turns gold and the page scrolls you to the next one.

Your progress is saved on this device only. If you switch from your iPad to your phone, the new device starts fresh. Pick one device and stay on it.

Keep two things all the way through

they are the course
  • Your voice notes — short recordings on your own phone. You will record the same task again in Week 6 and hear how far you moved.
  • Your Couldn't-Catch List — every time you fail to understand something in English, write down what you did hear.
Bring both to every live class. The list is what your teacher builds the hour around.

Set your language once

on any Workshop page

The Pronunciation Workshop gives different advice to Nepali speakers and Chinese speakers, because the two languages make different parts of English hard. Choose yours once and it stays chosen.
